Game 7 Preview: Capitals look for perfect home stand against Penticton

The Cowichan Capitals continue to ride the momentum fro home ice wins, while the Penticton Vees are 4-0 and have yet to play a game at the South Okanagan Events Centre. Cowichan is looking to wrap up this home stand 3-0 after a 5-2 win over Surrey on Wednesday, and a 3-2 victory over Alberni Valley on Friday. Josh Kagan has found his goal scoring touch over the last two games, scoring two power play goals against Surrey, and opening the scoring against the Bulldogs Friday. Kagan, Olivier Gauthier, and Cole Broadhurst had the goals in Friday’s game against Alberni Valley while Zach Borgiel stopped 23/25 for his 5th win of the season, the most of any BCHL goaltender. Cowichan is 5-1, and off to their best start for as far back as the BCHL online game-by-game records go in 2003. They sit tied with Powell River atop the league standings with 10 points, but Penticton is close behind, and is yet to lose a game.

Penticton is 4-0 after an opening weekend sweep in Trail, followed by wins in Merritt and Prince George last weekend. They won’t play their home opener until September 27th in a home and home against West Kelowna. The Vees are led by 2018 Philadelphia Flyers 1st round pick Jay O’brien, Danny Weight and David Silye, a returning player from last years team. Penticton has scored 22 goals in 4 games and given up just 8, for a +14 goal differential, the best in the BCHL (Cowichan is +9 for 3rd best). It will be the first time that the Vees return to the Cowichan Community Centre since March, when the Capitals handed Penticton their first, opening round playoff elimination in over 10 years. The puck drops at 6:00, doors open at 5:00.
