Game 7 RECAP: Caps head out on the road at 5-2 after loss to Penticton

In their first trip to the Cowichan Community Centre since last years playoffs, the Penticton Vees came out with a 6-0 win over the Cowichan Capitals, handing the Caps their 2nd loss of the season and first on home ice as they now hold a 5-2 record on the year, while Penticton moves to 5-0.

The Vees took a 1-0 lead in the game late in the first on a 2 on 1 chance that Tristan Amonte fired into the top corner for his 4th of the season. The Vees lead 1-0 after one, and increased the lead early in the 2nd on a net mouth scramble that was touched in by Lukas Sillinger at the 4:34 mark of the 2nd for his second point of the night. Then at 12:20 Alex DiPaolo was set up by Jay O’brien to make it 3-0 Vees through 40 minutes. Penticton continued to press in the 3rd and added three more goals, first it was Jackson Niedermayer at 11:04, then a pair of late ones from David Silye at 16:26 and Jay O’brien at 18:10 finished off the 6-0 Penticton final. Zach Borgiel took the loss stopping 35/41 and is now 5-1 on the season, while Yaniv Perets stopped all 18 for his first BCHL shutout. Cowichan finished the home stand with a 2-1 record and will take their 5-2 record out on the road next week, while Penticton continues the Island road trip in Nanaimo tomorrow afternoon.

Next up Cowichan will play their next 6 games on the road beginning with an Interior Division road trip at Salmon Arm on Friday, in Vernon Saturday and in Surrey on Sunday. Then the BCHL will host it’s annual showcase in Chilliwack and Penticton, the Capitals will play both of their games in Chilliwack, as they’ll face Langley and Surrey at the Chilliwack Coliseum. One final road game will be back on the Island and in Alberni Valley on October 5th before the Caps next home game October 11th against Trail.
