Capitals Week In Review

Friday, January 21:

A 4 point night from Luke Haymes and a 3 point effort from Shane Lavelle helped the Capitals come back from a late 3rd period deficit and defeat the Nanaimo Clippers in overtime. It was a back and forth contest with both teams holding a lead at some point. The Clippers managed to score two goals less than a minute apart to take a 5-3 lead half way through the third. Shane Lavelle was able to cut the Clippers lead to 1 with his 2nd goal of the night giving Cowichan life. Captain Brett Fudger was able to tie the game in the dying seconds, capitalizing on a defensive zone turnover by the Clippers and catching them out of position. James Bohn was the overtime hero burying his first as a Capital and completing the comeback.

Saturday, January 22:

Matthew Wood was the overtime hero for the Grizzlies as they were able to skate away with a 4-3 overtime victory over the Capitals. Victoria’s top line was a handful for the Capitals, with Wood having a 4 point night (3G,1A), Rickwood having a 3 point night (3A) and Eddy tallying a pair of assists. This game was another close battle with both teams playing well. Adam Grenier and Brett Fudger scored first period goals for the Capitals giving them the lead heading into the 2nd period. After the Grizzlies scored an early second period goal, the score would remain tied at 2 until Matthew Wood buried a powerplay marker half way through the third period. KT Walters would tie the game for the Capitals with just over two minutes to play, sending us to overtime for a second straight night. After a Cowichan penalty put the Grizzlies up a man, Matthew Wood was able to complete his hat trick and seal the win for the Grizzlies. Kyle Kelsey was solid in net for the Grizzlies stopping 26/29, while Mccoy Bidewell was equally as solid stopping 30/34.

Next up for the Capitals is a three game weekend on the mainland, with a pair of games against the Langley Rivermen, followed by a Sunday matinee with the Coquitlam Express. All games can be heard live on 89.7 Juice FM and watched live & on demand on BCHLTv.
