Week In Review, Jan 24-30

It was an up & down weekend for the Capitals during their 3 game trip to the lower mainland.

Game 1 of the road trip had the Capitals taking on the conference leading Langley Rivermen. It was a back and forth affair with both teams struggling to put the puck in the net until the 3rd. Sam Schofield opened the scoring with a short handed marker on a perfectly placed pass from Shane Lavelle. James Bohn would add a powerplay goal shortly thereafter to give the Capitals a 2-0 lead. It looked as though the Caps would skate away with a 2-0 victory, but a sustained offensive attack by the Rivermen would lead to a pair of late goals to tie the game up and send us to overtime. In the extra frame, it took all but 43 seconds for the Rivermen’s Tyler Schleppe to end it. Mccoy Bidewell was once again spectacular turning aside 43/46.

Game 2 saw the Caps looking to avenge their loss from Friday with a rematch against the same Langley team. Langley came out strong and took an early 2 goal lead. The Caps battled back and  the teams would trade goals for the majority of the game. The Caps played a strong game and were in it until the final horn sounded. They would fall 5-4, but left the ice feeling confident heading into Sunday. It was a multi point night for both Brett Fudger (1G,1A) and Connor Elliott (2A). Fudger, Luke Haymes, David Jacobs, and KT Walters found the back of the net for the Caps. Evan May was solid in net, turning aside 31/36 in the loss.

Game 3 was an afternoon matchup at the train station with the Coquitlam Express. This game has been circled on the calendar for a while as 2 valuable points were on the line as these two teams are in a battle for the final playoff spot. The Capitals would head into Coquitlam confident after playing 2 solid road games against the top team in the conference. That confidence would carry over as they skated away with a 3-1 victory. Brett Fudger had another multi point game (2G, 1A), while Connor Elliott contributed with a goal & David Jacobs added 2 assists. Mccoy Bidewell was again sparkling, stopping 28/29, falling less than a minute shy of his first BCHL shutout.

The Capitals will be looking to build off this productive weekend as they prepare for their upcoming home & home with the Powell River Kings.
