Capitals acquire Lavery, Verbicky and futures in from Vernon

The Cowichan Capitals have acquired 2004 born forward Luke Lavery, the rights to 2003 born forward Kobe Verbicky and future considerations from the Vernon Vipers in exchange for 2003 born defenceman Connor Elliott on Thursday.

Lavery, a Nanaimo product joins the Capitals after he was moved from the Nanaimo Clippers to Vernon last season. This season Lavery has 2 goals and 3 points in 13 games, after last year recording 13 points as a 17 year old and receiving a commitment to Providence College in Rhode Island.

Kobe Verbicky has spent the last two seasons playing in the Western Hockey League with the Edmonton Oil Kings and Kamloops Blazers. He started the 2019/20 season in Cowichan scoring once in 14 games as a 16 year old. In 62 career WHL games Verbicky has recorded 3 goals and 5 assists for 8 points. The Victoria, BC product scored his first BCHL goal November 16th, 2019 in a Capitals 1-0 win in Chilliwack.

“We are sad to see to see stalwart defencemen Connor Elliot be traded to the Vernon Vipers. Connor is a grade A player and teammate, but with the sadness we would like to announce a positive, bringing in another NCAA committed player in Luke Lavery, the playing rights to Kobe Verbicky who has played here in the past and future considerations. We would like to wish Connor all the best in Vernon, and thank him for his time in Cowichan” said Capitals Head Coach and General Manager Brian Passmore.
Elliott was acquired from the Prince George Spruce Kings early in the 2021/22 season, and this season has totalled 1 goal and 6 points in 12 games. The Capitals thank Connor for his time in the Cowichan Valley both on ice with the Capitals and off the ice in the community, and wish him the best of luck with the Vipers.
The Capitals 5 game home stand continues this weekend with a pair of home games, Friday night the Capitals host the Victoria Grizzlies, and Saturday welcome the Trail Smoke Eaters to the Big Stick. Both games start at 7:00PM and tickets are available at cowichancapitals.com/tickets as well as the Capitals office.
