Capitals acquire Kole Keen and Gleb Somenko from Surrey in four player deal

Duncan, BC – The Cowichan Capitals have acquired forwards Kole Keen and Gleb Somenko from the Surrey Eagles in exchange for Loik Leduc and Ludovik Gauvin.

The move brings a familiar face back to the Cowichan Valley, with Keen returning to the Capitals after spending parts of the previous two seasons with the organization. The 20-year-old forward from White City, Saskatchewan appeared in 33 games for Cowichan during the 2024-25 season, recording six goals and 13 points. He returned the following season and produced seven goals and 11 points in 14 games before joining the Surrey Eagles, where he recorded 15 goals and 32 points in 42 games.

The deal also includes 18-year-old forward Gleb Somenko. The 5-foot-9 left-shot forward from Arkhangelsk, Russia, is entering his second season in the BCHL. Beginning the 2025-26 campaign with the Sherwood Park Crusaders, he registered six goals and 19 points in 34 games before joining Surrey and adding six goals and 13 points in 15 games. Combined, Somenko finished his first BCHL season with 12 goals and 32 points in 49 games.

Before arriving in the BCHL, Somenko had a prolific 2024-25 season with Team Maryland 16U AAA, recording 51 goals and 85 points in 54 games.

Heading to Surrey as part of the deal are defencemen Loik Leduc and Ludovik Gauvin. The Cowichan Capitals would like to thank Loik and Ludovik for their contributions to the organization and wish them success moving forward.
