Opening your home to a Cowichan Capitals player is about much more than providing a place to sleep. It is an opportunity to play a meaningful role in the life of a young athlete as they pursue their hockey dreams while becoming part of our community.

Each season, players between the ages of 16 and 20 leave home to continue their development both on and off the ice. For many, it is their first time living away from their families. Billet families provide stability, guidance, encouragement, and a welcoming environment during an important stage in these young men’s lives.

Billet families become a player’s home away from home. They help ease the transition into a new community, celebrate milestones and achievements, and provide support through the challenges that naturally come with being away from family. The relationships built through billeting often extend far beyond a player’s junior hockey career, with many families and former players remaining connected for years to come.

At the same time, the experience is incredibly rewarding for billet families. You become part of the Capitals family and have the unique opportunity to watch a young person grow in confidence, maturity, and character while pursuing their goals both academically and athletically.

Billet Family Responsibilities

• Provide a private bedroom and welcoming home environment.
• Offer nutritious meals and access to kitchen facilities.
• Support, encourage, and include players as part of the family.
• Maintain open communication with Capitals staff when needed.
• Provide the same guidance, respect, and care you would offer your own children.

What Billet Families Receive

• A monthly stipend for each player hosted.
• Season tickets for members of the immediate household.

Our Commitment

The Cowichan Capitals work closely with all prospective billet families to ensure the right fit for both players and hosts. This process includes interviews, home visits, and ongoing support throughout the season.

Our players are expected to respect their billet families, contribute positively within the household, and represent the Cowichan Capitals with professionalism and character at all times.
