Capitals acquire 2002 Duncan born goalie Will Gurski from Winnipeg

The Cowichan Capitals are excited to announce the acquisition of 2002 born net minder Will Gurksi from the Winnipeg Freeze of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League in exchange for future considerations. Gurski stands 6’3″ and weighs 205 lbs having spent the past two seasons with Winnipeg-based junior hockey teams. In the shortened 2020-2021 season Gurski played 4 games with the Winnipeg Freeze, while splitting time in the 2019-2020 season between the MJHL’s Winnipeg Blues and the Western Hockey League’s Winnipeg Ice.

“We are excited to have Will join the Capitals and play for his hometown team. Will is a big goalie and moves really well, his work ethic and compete level will not go unnoticed” said Capitals Head Coach and General Manager Brian Passmore.

Prior to heading out to Manitoba after the Ice drafted him in the 4th round of the 2017 WHL draft, Gurksi spent two seasons as a member of the Shawnigan Lake School U18 Prep team, where he played in 35 games totalling a 23-6-4 record, and finished both seasons with a goals against average under 2.5 and a save percentage over .900.

Welcome to the Capitals Will!
