Game 6 Preview: Capitals continue home stand against Bulldogs

The Cowichan Capitals continue this 3 game home stand on Friday night hosting the Alberni Valley Bulldogs for the first time this season at 7:00PM at the Cowichan Community Centre. Both teams come in off of wins over Surrey, and Cowichan sits 2nd in the Island Division at 4-1, while Alberni Valley is 2-3, and tied with Victoria for 4th in the division. Cowichan is off to their best start since the 2013/14 season when they also won four out of the first five. The Caps are also 3-0 on home ice with an 8-2 win over Victoria, 4-2 win against Chilliwack, and then Wednesday’s 5-2 victory over Surrey. Cowichan also gets a body back into the lineup as Tanner Sidaway, who was kicked out of the opening game of the season for a major penalty for checking to the head is able to return to the lineup, and brings a wealth of experience and hard work. Cowichan is led by Tyrell Boucher’s 7 assists in 5 games, while Josh Kagan and Luc Wilson’s 3 point nights on Wednesday have moved them up to 6 points each on the season. Zach Borgiel stopped 29/31 Wednesday and is now 4-0 on the year, one of just two goalies with 4 wins this year.

Alberni Valley is led by Mitch Deelstra (3-2-5), Ryan Doolin’s (2-3-5) and Jackson Munro’s (1-4-5) 5 points in 5 games this season, while Luke Pearson and Jackson Glassford have basically split duties in goal. Alberni opened the season with a pair of losses in Powell River on opening weekend, before splitting a home and home with Nanaimo last weekend. They fell 2-1 in Nanaimo on the Friday before coming back for a 2-1 shootout win in their home opener on the Saturday. Most recently they used a 5 goal 3rd period on Tuesday to go from trailing Surrey 3-1 to winning the game 6-3.

The Capitals are in the midst of a 3 game home stand before heading to the Interior and the Showcase, after this week, the next chance to see the Capitals at the big stick is October 11th. So join us at the rink when Cowichan hosts Alberni Valley on Friday at 7:00PM and Penticton on Saturday at 6:00PM.  Adult tickets are $14, students and seniors are $11, and kids tickets are $7.
