Game 3 Recap: Lynn, Arquiett score as Caps double up Chiefs

If they say two is a run and three is a streak then the Caps are streaking to start the 2019 BCHL season. Brady Lynn and Will Arquiett each scored a pair and Zach Borgiel collected his third win stopping 18/20 in the 4-2 Capitals decision. Cowichan lead 1-0 after one on an early goal from Lynn at 4:58 from Cruz Cote and Olivier Gauthier. They increased that in the 2nd, while outshooting the Chiefs 16-4 in the frame. First, Josh Kagan found Arquiett on an area pass to the net where he tapped in his first BCHL goal to make it 2-0, then a few minutes later with Cowichan on a 5 on 3 power-play, fired a shot over the shoulder of Chilliwack goalie Kolby Thompson for his 2nd of the night. The Caps held a 3-0 lead through two periods, and a shot advantage of 20-11. In the 3rd, the Chiefs got on the board as Jacob Slipec walked off the near side boards and placed a shot under the arm of a screened Borgiel to make it 3-1, only to be answered 1:14 later by Lynn’s second of the night for Cowichan, a power play goal on a tremendous set up from Tyrell Boucher, who had three assists on the night. Chilliwack added one more on a point shot that hit three or four different sticks and bodies on the way to the net and was credited to Brett Willits.

With five minutes to go tempers flared after Capitals forward Dan McIntyre was hit with a late, blindsided check from Nikita Nesterenko, causing a scrum. Nesterenko was given a five minute major blow to the head penalty while McIntyre was forced from the game by the cheap shot and did not return. Heading into Saturday’s game he was the team points leader with 3 goals and an assist for 4 points in two games. The Capitals finished with 36 shots to Chilliwack’s 20, and next face off with the other 3-0 Island Division team, the Powell River Kings Sunday afternoon at Hap Parker Arena at 2:00PM.
