GAME 10 RECAP: Caps double up Surrey to sweep road trip

The Cowichan Capitals won all 3 games on their first trip off the Island, beating Salmon Arm, Vernon, and Surrey this weekend, returning to the Island with an 8-2 record, after a 4-2 win at South Surrey Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Will Arquiett stepped out of the box after serving a warm up violation and jumped into a 3 on 1 rush and took a pass from Zach Brooks to put Cowichan ahead 1-0 at 2:18 with his 3rd of the season. Then at 13:53 Cowichan forced Surrey into a turnover at the Capitals line and Cruz Cote sprung Brady Lynn on a breakaway down the far side, and he snapped a shot under the blocker of Surrey goalie Thomas Scarfone for his 4th of the season and a 2-0 Caps lead through one. Cruz Cote then collected a loose puck in the slot and ripped home his 3rd of the season to make it 3-0 Cowichan. Christophe Tellier got Surrey on the board with a power play goal late in the 2nd and a 3-1 Cowichan lead through 2. Zach Brooks buried his 1st BCHL goal to make it 4-1 Cowichan, and Surrey could only get as close as 2 with Hudson Schandor scoring a late goal to make it 4-2.

Cowichan took all 6 points on the trip, and continue to hold top spot in the Island Division with a now 8-2 record, including 4-1 away from the Cowichan Community Centre. Zach Borgiel collected his BCHL league leading 8th win of the season. Next up Cowichan faces Langley at 10:00 AM Wednesday in Chilliwack at the Showcase, then take on Surrey for the 3rd time this season Thursday at 4:00PM. Cowichan’s next home game is October 11th against Trail.
