GAME 10 Preview: Capitals visit Eagles to wrap up mainland swing

Not very often would an Island Division team working through an Interior road trip, run into a team also playing their 3rd game in 2.5 days, but that’s the situation Cowichan finds themselves in this weekend. Albeit with less travel the Surrey Eagles also have a 3 game weekend after a home and home set against Langley the last two nights. The puck drops at 4:00 PM this afternoon from South Surrey Arena. Cowichan is 7-2 and atop the Island Division after taking both of the first two games of this trip. It was a 4-1 win in Salmon Arm Friday and a 7-2 win in Vernon Saturday. In the Vipers game, Cowichan got goals from 6 different players. Andy Bridgewater and Dimitri Mikrogiannakis scored 1st period goals, while Tyrell Boucher and Matt Crasa each scored their first BCHL goals in the 2nd, and Crasa added another before the end of the period for good measure to make it 5-0 through 2. The teams traded goals in the 3rd with Cowichan getting markers from Luc Wilson and Cruz Cote to round out the scoring in a 7-2 win. The Eagles put up 7 as well last night, beating Langley 7-1 on the road. It was thanks for 5 second period goals after giving up the opening goal of the game, and the Eagles then went 3/6 on the power play. Hudson Schandor, Jason Lin and Holden Katzalay all had 3 point nights for the Eagles after being dhut out at home by Langley 3-0 on Friday.

Who’s Hot: Matt Crasa netted his first two BCHL goals on Saturday and has 4 points in 2 games with the Caps, his line mate Luc Wilson leads Cowichan with 5 goals and has scored in back-to-back games. Defenseman are starting to do a bit more scoring for Cowichan, as the Caps didn’t get a goal from a D-man through the first 7 games of the year, but now Dimitri Mikrogiannakis has scored in back to back games and Tyrell Boucher buried his first on Saturday. Holden Katzalay leads the Eagles with 6 goals, 3 more than anyone else, and his 11 points is also tops on the team. The Eagles power play came to life, scoring 3 times on 6 man advantages Saturday, after going 0/3 Friday. Both Thomas Scarfone and Zach Borgiel have played both games so far this weekend for their clubs, Borgiel is 2-0 this weekend while Scarfone is 1-1.
