Capitals netminder Lucas Pfeil commits to McGill University

The Cowichan Capitals are excited to announce that goaltender Lucas Pfeil has committed to McGill University in Montreal, Quebec to play for the schools USPORTS hockey team. Pfeil played his final season of junior with the Capitals after spending three seasons with the Ontario Hockey League’s Kitchener Rangers. The 21 year old hails from Owen Sound, Ontario and played in the majority of the games for Cowichan during the pod season. In 16 appearances, Pfeil finished 6-7-2 with a 3.17 GAA and .909 sv% while being one of the three 20 year-olds on the roster. Over three seasons in the OHL, Pfeil played in 47 games after being drafted in the 6th round of the 2016 OHL Entry Draft.

“We are very happy to announce that Lucas Pfeil will be continuing his hockey playing career at prestigious McGill University. Lucas brought maturity, commitment, leadership, calm and resolve during his time with the Capitals in the 2020-21 season. He stuck with the process through thick and thin. Lucas is very deserving of this opportunity and we would like to congratulate him on this accomplishment. We wish him the very best with his school and hockey experience at McGill” said Capitals Head Coach & General Manager Brian Passmore.

In their last partially played season in 2019-2020 McGill went 10-9 prior to losing to Concordia in the best of 3 Ontario University Athletics East Quarter-finals. Last year there were 3 former BCHL players on the McGill Martlets USPORTS team: Blake Hayward (Prince George), Harlan Orr (Trail), and William Poirier (Salmon Arm).

Congratulations Lucas!
