Capitals acquire 2003 born UCONN commit Owen Simpson

The Cowichan Capitals are excited to announce the acquisition of 2003 born defenceman Owen Simpson from the Pickering Panthers of the OJHL in exchange for future considerations. Simpson stands at 6’4″ and is a left shot defender from Toronto, Ontario. Last season he played with the Boston Jr Bruins of the NCDC as the Ontario Junior Hockey League season was cancelled due to Covid-19. In 13 games Simpson scored once and finished with 4 points. In his first year of junior, Simpson played for the OJHL’s Whitby Fury and finished with 16 points in 45 games as a 16 year old.

“Owen will play a big role on our back end. He is a big smooth skating defensemen who will help improve our transition game, breakout and power play. Owen is an elite level player and we are very pleased and excited to welcome him” said Capitals Head Coach and General Manager Brian Passmore.

Simpson is another player coming to the Capitals already having an NCAA Division 1 Hockey commitment as he will attend the University of Connecticut after graduating from junior hockey. Welcome to the Capitals Owen!
