Capitals name Dan McIntyre as 2020/2021 team captain

The Capitals are thrilled to announce that 3rd year Capital Dan McIntyre will be the teams captain during the 2020/2021 season. McIntyre, a 20 year old forward from Almonte, Ontario was acquired by Cowichan during the summer of 2018 from the Central Canadian Hockey League’s Kanata Lasers. In his rookie season he scored 5 goals and 13 points during the regular season, and then scored one of the biggest goals in the franchises recent history in the 2019 playoffs, when he netted the game winner in Cowichan’s game 6 series clinching win over Penticton. That postseason McIntyre recorded 2 goals and an assist in 12 games.

“We are really excited to name Dan McIntyre as our Captain. He has been with the Capitals the last two years and has grown into an exceptional leader with our program. Throughout the summer and through training camp Dan has consistently shown a team first attitude, leadership and commitment to our program. He has a strong command of the dressing room and is a tremendous example to our younger players” said Capitals Head Coach and General Manager Geoff Grimwood.

Last season McIntyre kicked off the season with a hat-trick in Cowichan’s home opening 8-1 win over Victoria and would go on to finish with 8 goals and 21 points for the season. Last season McIntyre also secured a college commitment, as he will attend Cornell and play for the Big Red men’s hockey team next season.

I feel extremely honoured and humbled to be chosen to wear the “C” this season for the Caps.  After the extended summer due to COVID-19 everyone in our organization is itching to get the season started. We have an unbelievable amount of character in our room and we are full of leaders and guys that will always compete” said McIntyre.I also want to say thank you to the city of Duncan for their selfless support and to all the volunteers that make our program run. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to play in your city. The Blue Collar Boys are back.”

The Capitals will announce the rest of the leadership group in the coming days.
