Capitals Name Leadership Group for 2016-17

Harpur, Verrall, MacDonald and Newton will wear letters this season.

Duncan, BC – The Cowichan Valley Capitals leadership group has been named for the 2016-17 campaign. Chris Harpur will represent the team as captain. Ben Verrall, Ayden MacDonald and Max Newton are assistants.

Harpur, who turned 20-years old on Sept. 13th, is entering his third full BCHL season and second with the Capitals. Since joining the Caps after being acquired from the Victoria Grizzlies ahead of last season, Harpur hasn’t missed a game, totaling three goals and 18 assists in 62 games with Cowichan Valley. His 118 career BCHL games are more than any current Capitals players.

Verrall has played 96 career BCHL games, all coming with the Caps. The 20-year-old Saskatoon, SK native has six goals, 11 assists and 114 penalty minutes in that time.

MacDonald, like Harpur and Verrall, will be 20-years old this year and is entering his third full season in the league. He was acquired with Harpur from the Grizzlies in 2015 and also hasn’t missed a game since then. He’s played in 116 career BCHL games, and with the Capitals has 16 goals, 14 assists and 89 penalty minutes in 62 games.

Newton will turn 19 later this year, making him the youngest among the Caps leadership group. Entering his third year in the league as well, Newton has 23 goals and 43 assists in 99 BCHL games. He was acquired from the Trail Smoke Eaters during the offseason.
