The Cowichan Capitals entered this stretch of six straight games away from the Cowichan Community Centre with a 5-2 record, and now have a chance to return to the friendly confines of the stick with a 10-3 record, playing the final of this road six-pack in Alberni Valley against the Bulldogs on Saturday night. Both teams are coming off of splits at the showcase, with Cowichan falling 4-2 to Langley and beating Surrey 4-2 the next day. Alberni Valley lost to Chilliwack 5-2 in the Wednesday night game, then beat Merritt 4-1 on Thursday. Cowichan sits atop the Island Division standings with a 9-3 record, and 18 points, while Alberni Valley is 4th in the division at 4-8 on the year. The Bulldogs have yet to win a true road game, but were the road team in Wednesday’s victory over the Centennials for a 1-7 record away from the Alberni Valley Multiplex. On the other side of the coin, the ‘Dogs are 3-1 on home ice so far. Cowichan is 4-1 on home ice, not including the showcase games, and an impressive 4-1 on the road as well. Cowichan has won 4 of their last 5, with the 10 AM loss to Langley on Wednesday the only blemish in the last handful of games. Cowichan beat Alberni Valley 3-2 on September 20th at the Cowichan Community Centre, thanks to a 3rd period goal from Cole Broadhurst.
Who’s Hot: Brady Lynn netted his 2nd career hat trick in the Thursday afternoon win over Surrey, including scoring the game winner with 3:02 left in the game, and burying his 3rd with 1 second left in the contest on the power play. Tyrell Boucher picked up a pair of assists in the Surrey game as well to get to 12 helpers and 13 points on the year, the tops in the BCHL assist wise. For the Bulldogs, Mitch Deelstra scored twice in the win over Merritt, and now has a league leading 9 goals on the season. Jackson Munro has 9 points in 13 games to lead Alberni defensemen, and sit 4th league wide.
