Playoff Push Continues

The Capitals push for the playoffs continues this week with 3 big matchups. With 5 regular season games left to go it appears this race for the final playoff spots will go down to the wire. The Capitals entered this past weekend in the 8th seed, but after back to back losses (and an overtime point from the Kings) they have fallen back into 9th spot. With their recent strong play, the Coquitlam Express have created a bit of breathing room for themselves as they sit in the 7th seed with a 4 point cushion over Powell River. The Capitals will be looking for better results this week as they can no longer afford to be losing out on valuable points.

Friday sees the aforementioned Express visit the Big stick for their 3rd and final time this season. The season series is currently tied at 2 wins a piece with both teams looking to grab a precious 2 points. In their last visit to Duncan the Express were able to skate away with a 4-2 victory. 4 days earlier, the Caps blanked the Express 4-0 on super bowl Sunday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7pm.

Saturday the team heads to the mainland for a two game swing. The first matchup sees us going toe-to-toe with the Chilliwack Chiefs. The Chiefs left Duncan this past weekend with a convincing 7-1 victory over the Capitals. Revenge will be on their minds as the Capitals look to replicate their performance from their previous visit to Chilliwack, which saw them head home with a 4-1 victory. Puck drop is scheduled for 7pm

The Capitals finish the weekend with a matinee matchup at the South Surrey arena against the Surrey Eagles. The Eagles have had the Caps number all season, winning every matchup thus far. Last meeting saw the Eagles leave Duncan with an 8-5 victory. Last visit to South Surrey saw the Caps head home empty handed, suffering a 2-1 defeat. The Caps will need to change that narrative to keep their playoff hopes alive. Puck drop is set for 4pm

Of Note: Following their Friday night matchup with the Capitals, the Express will head to Powell River for a pair of weekend games. These games will have an enormous impact on the standings and will could provide some clarity to the playoff picture. With so much on the line, all 3 teams will be playing like it’s do or die hockey.
