GAME 9 RECAP: Capitals score 7 in Vernon for 7th win of the season

The offence came to play with 6 different Capitals scoring and 12 players recording a point in a 7-2 win over the Vernon Vipers, for the Capitals 7th win of the season. Cowichan got the scoring started in the later stages of the first period immediately after a penalty kill, as Dan McIntyre set up Andy Bridgewater to one time home his 3rd of the season. With under 90 seconds left in the frame Dimitri Mikrogiannakis sent a seeing-eye shot through traffic that found twine to make it 2-0 Caps through 20 minutes. There were a pair of first’s in the 2nd period, as Tyrell Boucher’s point shot hit a Viper net front and bounced in for his first BCHL goal at 8:57. Twenty seconds later on a Cowichan power play Matt Crasa got the centring feed from Mikrogiannakis for his first BCHL goal at 9:17 of the 2nd. Five minutes later Crasa buried his 2nd of the night on a laser bean wrist shot on a 1 on 1 rush to make it 5-0 through 40 minutes. The teams traded goals in the 3rd with Vernon getting goals from Ben Helgeson and Ryan Shostak, while Luc Wilson scored his 5th, and Cruz Cote netted his 2nd of the season in the 3rd for the Capitals on route to a 7-2 win. Zach Borgiel stopped 25/27 for his 7th win of the season, while Max Palaga allowed 5 goals on 21 shots in 2 periods before giving way to affiliate goalie Kobe Grant, who stopped 8/10 in the 3rd period for Vernon. The Caps went 1/5 on the power play while Vernon was 1/7.

The trip concludes Sunday afternoon in Surrey against the Eagles for the 2nd of 3 times in 3 weeks between the two teams, Cowichan was victorious 5-2 in the first meeting in Duncan. Puck drop is 4:00 from South Surrey Arena.

The Capitals continue their road trip  in Surrey on Sunday. Then the BCHL will host it’s annual showcase in Chilliwack and Penticton, the Capitals will play both of their games in Chilliwack, as they’ll face Langley and Surrey at the Chilliwack Coliseum. One final road game will be back on the Island and in Alberni Valley on October 5th before the Caps next home game October 11th against Trail.
