GAME 8 RECAP: Capitals use special teams scoring to take down Salmon Arm 4-1

The Cowichan Capitals started their first Interior road trip of the season on the right foot Friday night, using 2 power play goals and a shorthanded marker to beat the Salmon Arm Silverbacks 4-1.

Dan McIntyre may have missed 4 games, but he didn’t miss a beat, opening the scoring just 1:19 into the game with his 4th of the season on a deflected point shot. Cowichan extended the lead in the middle part of the period on a Luc Wilson power play goal, with a screened point shot working it’s way through traffic and into the back of the net. In the 2nd period McIntyre stole the puck from Salmon Arm goalie Ethan Langenegger behind the net and tucked in his 2nd of the night and 5th of the season shorthanded and unassisted early in the frame. Salmon Arm got on the board just past the mid way point of the 2nd on a power play goal from Will Poirier, shovelling a puck along the ice for his 6th of the season, but Cowichan answered back with a power play goal of their own. A blue line shot from Dimitri Mikrogiannakis found it’s way into the back of the net just two minutes later to bookend the scoring for a 4-1 Cowichan win.

The Capitals moved to 6-2 on the season, while handing the Silverbacks their first loss of the year. Dan McIntyre had 3 points in the win with 2 goals and an assist and was named 2nd star while Zach Borgiel stopped 32 out of 33 for his 6th win of the season. New forwards Primo Self and Matt Crasa each had assists in the game for their first BCHL points as well.

Next up Cowichan is in Vernon on Saturday night to face the Vipers at 6:00. The pregame show is live from Kal Tire Place at 5:45, on 89.7 Juice FM and Hockey TV.
