Game 5 Preview: Caps looking to bounce back against Eagles

Sitting at 3-1 and 2nd in the early Island Division standings, the Cowichan Capitals are off to their best start since 2015-16 in which they also won their first three games before dropping both at the showcase in Chilliwack. The Capitals will be looking to continue the home ice success and have a bounce back performance against a Surrey Eagles club that sits a 2-2 after back to back losses including a 6-3 defeat in Alberni Valley last night. The Caps enter off a 7-2 loss in Powell River for their first defeat of the season, in a game that was as close as 4-2 nearing the mid way point in the 3rd before Powell River potted a trio of goals in the latter half of the frame. Cowichan got goals from Olivier Gauthier and Cole Broadhurst in the game, and another assist from Tyrell Boucher, who has 7 assists in 4 games and is leading the team in points. This game opens up a 3 game home stand for Cowichan, all played this week. The Caps host Alberni Valley for the first time on Friday night and then the Penticton Vees come to the Cowichan Community Centre for the first time since game 6 of last years Interior Division Quarter Finals, in which a Cowichan 3-1 win knocked Penticton out of the playoffs.

The Eagles started the season by taking both games up in Prince George to start the season, but since then, were shut out 3-0 by Coquitlam in their home opener, and lost 6-3 yesterday. Surrey held a 3-1 lead in that game before surrendering 5 3rd period goals, including the game winner with 4:56 to go. Cal Schell stopped 26-31 in the game for Surrey. The Eagles are led by former Wenatchee forward Christophe Tellier, who has 3 goals and 2 assists in 4 games, and 2001 born defenseman Cade Alami has created a name for himself as well coming into the league, standing at 6’7” he has 1 goal and 1 assist in the 4 games. He was ranked 173 in last years NHL draft but was not selected.
