Caps fall 3-1 to Grizzlies at home Wednesday

Dimitri Mikrogiannakis notched his 2nd goal of the season early in the 2nd period after the teams played to a scoreless first. For Mikrogiannakis, as mentioned it’s his 2nd of the year, and also 2nd on the power-play, as Preston Brodziak hit him sliding to the back door where he grabbed his own rebound after his first offering was blocked. The Caps lead 1-0 but Victoria would storm back, Alex Camplbell netted his team-leading 5th of the season on the power-play late in the 2nd to tie game game, sending it to the 3rd all square. Ryan Nolan scored just 41 seconds into the 3rd on the Grizzlies third chance at an open net after starting the period on the power-play, putting Victoria ahead for good. Alex Newhook would add an unassisted goal half-way through the 3rd for his 2nd of the year, as he picked up a turnover and snapped a shot in stride passed Jack Grant. Grant stopped 37/40 in the loss while Kurtis Chapman stopped 32/33 in the win. With the victory, Victoria moves into a tie for tops in the division with 8 points, while Cowichan remains at 4 points in a 3-way tie for 3rd in the Island.  Next up the Caps host Chilliwack on Saturday, the game starts at 6PM, with coverage on 89.7 Juice FM beginning at 5:45.
