Capitals Sign 2005 Born Goaltender Rhett Stoesser

Duncan, BC – The Cowichan Capitals are adding some Major-Junior experience between the pipes for the upcoming BC Hockey League season.

The Caps have signed 2005 born Goaltender Rhett Stoesser for the 2025-26 season, Head Coach and General Manager Cam Keith announced Thursday morning.  Stoesser, who has spent the last three seasons in the Western Hockey League, comes to the Cowichan Valley with 91 games of Major Junior experience, coming off of two seasons with the Red Deer Rebels, and last year with the Kelowna Rockets.

“It was more the opportunity that he became available.” said Cam Keith on the signing of his new netminder. “It was one of those situations that you [couldn’t look past], he’s a three year WHL experienced goalie, and we believe he’s a guy that can be a difference maker in this league.”

Stoesser is expected to join the club this week for the final two games of the BCHL’s preseason, however it’s unclear if he will dress for either game at this time.  The Capitals wrap up the exhibition campaign this weekend, as they’re in Powell River on Friday, September 12, before returning home on Sunday afternoon to host the Alberni Valley Bulldogs in a preview of Cowichan’s Home Opener.
