DUNCAN, BC – The Cowichan Capitals are excited to announce the signing of 2004 born defenceman Matteus Söderbom for the 2023/24 season. Söderbom, from Växjö, Sweden comes to Cowichan after spending the past two seasons with the Växjö Lakers HC J20 team. Last season in 48 games the defender scored twice and totalled 16 points and 40 penalty minutes. He also dressed for one game in the Swedish Hockey League, the highest professional league in Sweden, with the Lakers pro team.
Listed at 6’4″ – 230 lbs, Söderbom brings size and experience to the Capitals blue line. Along with playing a pro game last season, he played 3 games with the Swedish U19 International team last year. Söderbom joins Norwegian forward Lars Petter Eckholm as the other European player on the Capitals for the 2023/24 season.
