Capitals make trio of roster moves

The Cowichan Capitals have made a trio of roster moves ahead of this weekend’s home game against the Langley Rivermen. In a three-team trade involving the Penticton Vees and Coquitlam Express the Capitals have acquired forward Shane LaVelle and future considerations, while defenceman Owen Simpson heads to Penticton and defenceman Luke Vardy goes from the Vees to the Express. LaVelle is a 20 year old import forward out of Minnesota, and scored 4 goals and 8 points in 8 games for the Express, along with starting the season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League with the Spruce Grove Saints where he totalled 5 points in 12 games.

Cowichan has also signed 19 year old goaltender McCoy Bidewell after two strong showings last weekend against Langley and Coquitlam. Between the two games he stopped 75 out of 83 shots after putting up a 1.60 GAA and .959 save percentage in the KIJHL with the Fernie Ghostriders.

The Capitals have also played 20 year old forward Adam Jeffery on Long Term Injured Reserve. Jeffery missed the first 5 games of the season before returning for the showcase and scoring 6 goals in his first 3 full games, two in each contest. In Cowichan’s October 31st game against Vernon he suffered a lower body injury and is now on LTIR.
