Capitals forward Shane Lavelle commits to NCAA Division 1 Lindenwood University

The Cowichan Capitals are excited to announce that graduated forward Shane LaVelle has committed to Lindenwood University for the 2022/23 season! LaVelle hails from Chaska, Minnesota and started the season with the Coquitlam Express before being acquired by the Capitals via trade. Between the Express and Capitals, he finished with 13 goals and 30 points in 44 games, and scored two goals in 4 games in the Capitals first round series with Alberni Valley. Prior to coming to the BCHL, LaVelle played parts of two seasons in the AJHL with the Spruce Grove Saints with 12 points in 27 games.

“It’s always been a goal of mine to play NCAA Division 1 after junior hockey, so I’m excited to get started with the Lindenwood Lions this fall and help build and be apart of that winning culture they have” said LaVelle.

Lindenwood University announced at the tail end of March that they would be joining the Mens Division 1 Hockey Program, after being just one of two NCAA schools that had a Women’s Division 1 Program but not a mens. The Lions will start their mens program this fall for the 2022/23 season. Lindenwood University is located in Saint Charles, Missouri, just outside of St. Louis.

LaVelle becomes the 3rd Capital to commit to a NCAA program for the 2022/23 season, joining David Jacobs (Princeton) and Adam Jeffery (RIT), and graduated defenceman Colin Campbell will play at Wilfrid Laurier in Ontario (USPORTS). Luke Haymes is committed to attend Dartmouth College after graduating from junior hockey.

Congrats Shane!
