Capitals commit to 19 year old defenceman Joe Harney

The Capitals are excited to announce the commitment of 19 year old import defenceman Joe Harney for the 2021/22 season. Harney, from Needham, Massachusetts comes to the Capitals after spending last season with the Cape Cod Whalers U18 team. In 30 games Harney scored twice and finished with 11 points. Prior to heading to Cape Cod, Harney played with St. Sebastians School in the United States High School Prep League, where he had again 2 goals and 11 points in 28 games.

“Joe plays an aggressive style, has great range, skating ability and moves the puck quickly. Joe has good hockey sense and plays a physical brand of hockey. A right shot defencemen, who brings great work ethic and character to our team. We are excited to sign Joe for this season, he will further strengthen our back end” said Capitals Head Coach & General Manager Brian Passmore.
Harney will join the Capitals for main camp, which opens September 17th, ahead of Cowichan’s first preseason game against Powell River September 21st at the Cowichan Community Centre. The Caps open the regular season at home October 9th against Alberni Valley.
