Capitals acquire 20 year old OHL veteran Griffin Wilson

The Cowichan Capitals are excited to announce the addition of forward Griffin Wilson to the roster for the upcoming 2021/22 season. Wilson hails from Elora, Ontario and spent the past two seasons with the Ontario Hockey League’s Owen Sound Attack. The OHL did not have a season in 2020/21, so Wilson’s last season played was 2019/20 where as an 18 year old he scored twice and finished with 5 points in 36 games played. Over his major junior career he played 99 games with the Attack and recorded 18 points. Wilson stands 6’3″ and weighs in at 209lbs and adds size down the middle for the Capitals.

“Griffin is a big strong powerful Centre, he uses his size and skating ability to create plays and force turnovers on the forecheck. Griffin plays a heavy brand of hockey and is hard to knock off the puck. An established Junior player and brings many intangibles, checking, and leadership. He is a great fit for our club for this season. Look for Griffin to be an impact player for the Capitals this season; he is terrific on the penalty kill and is hungry to provide offence this season with opportunity. He has exceptional character; a winner and we are very happy to have him join us” said Capitals Head Coach & General Manager Brian Passmore.

Wilson was selected in the 1st round, 15th overall in the 2018 OHL U18 draft after a near point per game season with the Heron Perth Lakers U18 team where he notched 14 goals and 29 points in 33 games. Wilson joins another 20 year old OHL veteran on the Capitals roster, as defenceman Colin Campbell played for the Guelph Storm and would have played against Wilson in the OHL’s Western Conference over the past few seasons was acquired via trade in August. Welcome to Cowichan Griffin!

Capitals training camp opens September 17th, with the opening preseason game taking place September 21st at 2:00PM against the Powell River Kings at the Cowichan Community Centre.
