Capitals acquire 20 year old LIU commit Luke Strickland in trade

The Cowichan Capitals are excited to announce the acquisition of 2002 born forward Luke Strickland from the Stouffvile Spirit of the Ontario Junior Hockey League in exchange for 2004 born defenceman Mason Croucher. Strickland comes to the Capitals playing in the United States Hockey League for the Omaha Lancers, where he finished with 10 goals and 15 points in 59 games. His 10 goals were the 7th most on the team. During the 2020-21 covid-shortened season, Strickland went to the Maritime League to play for the Summerside Western Capitals alongside former Capital Clark Webster. In just 18 games Strickland scored 11 goals and finished with 16 points.

“We are getting a really great player in Luke, a gifted goal scorer. This is a huge addition for our hockey club and we are extremely excited to get Luke in the lineup. Luke is a driven player, he has an elite level shot and will be a key ingredient in our lineup, not only on the offensive side but in all situations. With Luke’s work ethic, leadership and skill; he will be a game changer” said Capitals Head Coach and General Manager Brian Passmore.

Strickland is committed to Long Island University for the 2023-24 season where he will join a Sharks program that has 5 BCHL graduates on it’s current roster including former Capitals Preston Brodziak (2018/19) and Riley Wallack (2021 Pod Season). Welcome to Cowichan Luke!

The Capitals would also like to thank Mason for his time spent in a Capitals uniform and his time spent in the community. We wish him the best of luck with his new team.

Capitals preseason action continues with one more home game Saturday September 17th vs Victoria. Tickets are 5$ at the door for exhibition games. The 2022 season begins Friday September 23rd when the Capitals host the West Kelowna Warriors.
