The Cowichan Valley Capitals are pleased to announce that Defencemen Corbin McPherson was selected in the 3rd round, 87th overall in the NHL Entry draft by the New Jersey Devils. The 6’4”, 210 lbs McPherson, a native of Folsom, California, racked up 4 goals and 10 assists in 44 games in his Rookie Season with the Capitals.
“Corbin is such a natural, his development was dramatic last year, and we expect him to flourish this season”, said General Manager/Coach Scott Robinson. “We look forward to Corbin taking a leading role with our Club; the Devils have made an excellent choice”.
Although he was un-rated by Central Scouting, Devils General Manager Lou Lamoriello said the Folsom, Calif., native is an "exceptional skater" with good size and a long reach. "Our scouts were really high on him."
Two formers Caps were also selected in the 2007 entry draft, Goaltender Torrie Jung and Dan Gendur. Jung played with the Caps during the 2005/06 season. The Nanaimo native played in 33 games in 2006-07 and posted a 3.46 goals-against average and recorded one shutout with the Kelowna Rockets. He went 183 overall to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Gendur was a member of the Caps in the 2003/04 season. This past season, Gendur tallied 22 goals and 27 assists for 49 points in 61 games for the Everett Silvertips and Prince George Cougars. Gendur was taken 206 overall by the Vancouver Canucks.
‘This was a fantastic day for these players, as an organization, we are very proud of them”, noted Scott Robinson. “To have 4 players Drafted (including Chris Frank – Phoenix in 2006), that were associated with our organization is a great achievement. We wish these players all the best in their future.
