Cowichan Capitals help to fund hospital pharmacy

Monday, September 14, 2009 ? Duncan, BC ? With the launch of the B.C. Hockey League (BCHL) season on September 11, Meyers Norris Penny LLP (MNP) once again announced its commitment to support the Cowichan Capitals and the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation (CDHF) through the firm?s ?Score for the Community? program.

For every goal the Capitals score at home during the regular season, MNP is donating donate $10 to the CDHF. MNP launched the ?Score for the Community? program during the Capitals? 2008-09 regular season, and doubled their contribution to $20 for every goal the Capitals scored at home during the 2009 BCHL playoffs. The Capitals scored a total of 133 goals at home last year during the regular season and playoffs, bringing MNP?s total donation to $1,350.

?MNP is very excited about our ongoing partnership with the Capitals that allows us to reward the team?s success and support the community at the same time,? said Rick Martinson, a Partner at MNP in Duncan. ?We can?t wait to see this year?s team in action, and look forward to working with the Capitals to raise even more funds and awareness for the Hospital Foundation.?

The CDHF was established in 1984 to support patient care at the Cowichan District Hospital and Cairnsmore Place. Since its inception, the foundation has raised over $5 million to purchase equipment that is not otherwise provided through government or other funding sources. The Foundation also plays a key role in keeping the community informed about the special equipment, facility and educational needs of the hospital.

?Thanks to MNP and an exciting season with the Cowichan Capitals last year, a lot of well needed funds were raised for our community hospital?s new pharmacy,? said Amy Brophy, Executive Director, CDHF. ?We are looking forward to another high scoring season this year. Come out and support your Capitals and Cowichan District Hospital, and hear all about our new campaign!?

?The Cowichan Valley Capitals are thrilled to partner again this season with MNP and the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation,? said Shari Paterson, Business Manager, of the  Cowichan Valley Capitals. ?Getting involved in a promotion where everyone wins is what this community is all about.?

MNP?s total donation for the 2009-10 season will be tracked on a meter on the Capitals? website (www.cowichancapitals.com.) The chartered accounting firm has also partnered with the Nanaimo Clippers and the Campbell River Storm (VIJHL) to support other local charities on the Island.
