Capitals Weekend Preview: Pair of home dates before Showcase

Ahead of next week’s showcase tournament, the Cowichan Capitals round out a three game home stand with a back to back this weekend against Island division rival Powell River followed by the only visit of the season by the Coquitlam Express.

Saturday, September 16th vs Powell River – 7:00 PM @ Island Savings Centre
The Capitals look for their first win of the season against the team that eliminated them from last seasons playoffs, as Powell River visits on the second of a back to back road trip. The Kings started the season with a pair of games against Victoria, winning the opener and dropping their second game in overtime. Powell River visits Nanaimo, the current Island Division leaders at 2-0, on Friday before visiting the Island Savings Centre on Saturday evening. The Capitals finished 5-3 against Powell River last season before falling in the opening round of the BCHL’s Fred Page Cup playoffs to the Kings. The Capitals and Kings are two of three Island division teams to have four power play opportunities, and both teams have scored on two of their man advantages, with the Capitals tallies coming from Ty Pochipinksi, and Yuri Davis-Martel.

Sunday, September 17th vs Coquitlam – 2:00 PM @ Island Savings Centre
It’s the only visit of the season for the Coquitlam Express as both teams enter on the second half of a back-to-back. The Express who tied Surrey 2-2 in their only game thus far sits third in the Mainland Division, tied with Langley and Chilliwack. The Express are in Alberni Valley on Saturday night before heading down island to Cowichan, as the Capitals face the Kings on the 16th. The Capitals and Express wrap up their season series early, as Cowichan wraps up their first real road trip of the season in Coquitlam on October 1st, the final stop in a three games in three night stretch with affairs in Wenatchee and Merritt. Last season, Cowichan topped Coquitlam 5-0 at the Island Savings Centre.

The Capitals then head out on the road for the anual BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack, where they will face Salmon Arm on Wednesday September 20th, and West Kelowna on Thursday September 21st.
