Capitals acquire 2001 forward Kahlil Fontana from Dauphin

The Cowichan Capitals are excited to announce the acquisition of 19 year old Cowichan Valley product Kahlil Fontana from the Dauphin Kings of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League in exchange for future considerations. Fontana spent last season between the Westshore Wolves of the VIJHL and the Victoria Grizzlies, finishing the season in the BCHL. 2019/20 was the start of Fontana’s second Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League season, where he scored 8 times and finished with 18 points in 13 games before being signed by the Grizzlies, who share the same arena with the Wolves. After joining Victoria Fontana played in in 40 games, scoring 5 times and totalling 11 points. Three of the five goals he scored came against the Capitals, including his first BCHL goal coming in his hometown at the Cowichan Community Centre. On June 22nd of this year, Victoria traded Fontana to Dauphin for futures.

“It’s always nice to add a player that’s already proven he can play at the BCHL level, Kahlil competes really hard and brings a solid work ethic. On top of that it’s important that we continue to build a pipeline for players from the Cowichan Valley and surrounding areas” said Capitals Head Coach and General Manager Geoff Grimwood.

Over his one and a quarter seasons in Junior B, Fontana amassed 49 points in 61 games after graduating from the Pacific Coast Academy of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League where he played 3 seasons between their Elite 15s program and the Midget Prep team. His final year his 41 points in 36 games was tied for 2nd in team scoring with Sean Ramsay, who now plays for the Surrey Eagles.

The Capitals welcome Kahlil to the Cowichan Valley!
